Learning for learning’s sake

Recently read somewhere (can’t remember where though), how parent’s role has changed over the past few decades. The article stated that parents must love and discipline their children, but more recently they have also taken the responsibility of entertaining them.

That thought has lingered on with me and made me reflect on how I have spent and continue to spend my time with my children and my students.

There can be many opinions on this and perhaps each would have some merit in them.

But my take on this is, that as teachers and parents we need to identify the difference between when we are teaching for learning and when we are teaching for fun.

Teaching for learning can be fun too.

But was is worrying is when teaching for fun is only fun with little or no learning.
